San Antonio, Texas, is the seventh largest city in the United States with a land area of about 412 square miles. The new Historic District Design Guidelines and Standards apply to all 27 locally-designated historic districts as well as all historic districts designated in the future. These districts vary in size from three parcels total to seven miles long. While the new standards and guidelines are organized to function as a cohesive document, each major section is formatted as a stand-alone document with a cover page and table of contents. The document is highly visual containing
photographs, illustrations, and labeled drawings. The guidelines and standards are organized into four major categories including Exterior Maintenance & Alterations, Additions, New Construction, Site Elements, and Signage. This document also includes a brief history of San Antonio’s historic districts as well as a description of existing architectural styles with an associated illustrated glossary.
