Engaging communities to plan for a sustainable and resilient future

Darcie has more than 27 years of experience in comprehensive planning and plan implementation. She is passionate about working with communities to create plans that establish a clear vision and roadmap for the future, while also helping to tell a story about what makes them unique—their history, people, and built and natural environment. She is equally passionate about working with communities to craft regulatory tools that help bring their plans to fruition. Darcie has a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Colorado State University and has also completed graduate coursework in Historic Preservation through Goucher College.

  • How has your understanding of critical planning issues affected one of your lifestyle choices?: Choosing to live in a neighborhood that allows my husband, our Australian Shepherd (Rusty), and I to take lengthy “urban” hikes when we can’t make it to the mountains.
  • Favorite place to visit: The Scottish Highlands.
  • Preferred Mode of Transportation: Walking. There is no better way to get to know a place—whether your hometown, a vast landscape, or a city you are visiting for the first time.
  • Weekend activity:  Hiking, gardening, and trying new recipes.
