Urban Agriculture: How to Grow your Garden Potential

As communities search for creative and innovative ways to address challenges arising from Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL), climate change, natural hazard potential, stormwater management, and local economic vitality, urban agriculture is emerging as a potential land use game changer.
So, what exactly is urban agriculture? As with most land use categories, urban agriculture is a broad idea that can include a plethora of applications at various scales. From backyard gardens to urban farms, rooftop sanctuaries and community gardens, urban agriculture generally is defined as a range of small to moderate-scale food-growing practices. In some cases, urban agriculture also can include the raising of poultry, small
livestock, and/or the keeping of bees.
Although urban agriculture is a broad concept, its implementation at the local land use level includes a hard look at what community benefits can be reaped, what pitfalls should be avoided, and what questions should be considered prior to planting.
