Albuquerque Zoning Update

Clarion Associates continues its extensive work to draft a new Integrated Development Code for Albuquerque, New Mexico. And the job is over halfway finished! This Monday and Tuesday, Don Elliott and Tareq Wafie conducted three public meetings and two stakeholder meetings to present the draft Development Standards and the city’s new and simpler approach to protecting the scale and character of its diverse residential neighborhoods. As expected, there was lots of focus on “neighborhood edge” protections, contextual development standards, neighborhood-specific development standards, aligning development densities with transportation/transit planning, and whether parking maximums are a good or bad idea for a low-density city that is very focused on economic development. Don Elliott and Summer Frederick will return next week to continue the conversation with public meetings in the remaining two quadrants of the city.
