Great news! The Davidson Comprehensive Plan, What’s Next Davidson, has been recognized by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association with a Marvin Collins Planning Award, Comprehensive Plan/Small Community category. The award recognizes comprehensive plans that advance the science and art of planning. The Town of Davidson hired Clarion in 2018 to aid in the development and facilitation of the public engagement process, analysis of conditions and trends, fiscal analysis of the community, and development of a new Comprehensive Plan.
The plan includes several important new tools including a new Growth Management Tiers Map and related Utility Service and Annexation Criteria, the Conservation and Growth Framework that identifies character areas to guide development in the Town’s planning area, priority areas for public or private conservation efforts, a phased approach for redevelopment of the S. Main corridor, and specific design guidance to assist decision-makers as redevelopment occurs over time. The final plan reflects diverse voices and emphasizes visual graphics, readability, continued planning leadership, and implementation/tracking. The plan was officially adopted in January 2020.
